A barista is a master espresso coffee maker, who practices a craft that can be described as a skilled art form. Read on to learn how good you will be at making stunning coffee after completing the Professional Barista Course.
The Espresso Coffee School of New Zealand is dedicated to teaching fine espresso making techniques. We can start you on a positive and rewarding career in the coffee industry.

We believe it is up to the people working in the industry to ensure the flavours, textures and aromas in espresso coffee are up to the highest standard. This way the standard of coffee will continue to improve and satisfy more customers.

The Course Details
The Professional Barista Course is a 2 day course which runs from 10:30 - 3:30 on a Saturday and Sunday at Caffe Della Piazza, an established cafe in the Auckland CBD.

In this time you will learn about:
The two day course allows time to learn and practice making perfect espresso coffee every time. This gives you every chance of success in producing that job-winning coffee when you have your interview. It also means your customers will get the same high quality every time they buy their coffee from you.
The Tutors
We have a range of tutors for you to work with on the Professional Barista Course.

Their role is to help you understand and control the "4M's" which are so important in creating consistent delicious espresso.

Each of our tutors work, or have worked, in the industry for a significant period of time. They include cafe owners, career baristas, roasters and coffee machine technicians. The variety of their work experience brings a rounded understanding of the "4M's".

With all this experience, any questions you have will be answered expertly. This will help you avoid the common pitfalls on your journey to achieving consistency with the perfect espresso.
Class Size
There is a maximum of 6 students in each course. This gives you ample personal time with the two tutors present to assist and answer your questions. The small class size means we have the ability to tailor the course to your individual learning requirements and can achieve the most over the two days.
Course Material
We understand not everyone learns in the same way. To cater to different learning styles, the course includes practical and theory work, both presented in a variety of ways. Catering to your individual learning style allows you to get the most out of your investment in this course.

We test both your theory knowledge and practical application throughout the 2 days. When you pass the tests, you will receive a Certificate in Barista Studies to confirm your knowledge and skills gained.

More importantly, passing the tests will help you to feel confident you have what's required for your ideal barista position.
