Kick start your career as a professional barista

Take our two-day Professional Barista Course and come away with the ability to make the perfect coffee every time. After completing our course you'll have the knowledge and essential practical skills to impress your way into sought-after barista positions. We teach you fine espresso-making techniques so you can go on to practice the craft that can only be described as a skilled art form.

What sets our course apart from the others?

    • Average vs excellence: It's easy to learn how to make average espresso coffee in a couple of hours. At The Espresso Coffee School we set very high standards that we help our students to achieve over two days, so that you can nurture your passion for excellent coffee and become a true barista.
    • Training and practice in a real cafe: Our course is run at an established cafe in the Auckland CBD. After the course, you can use the cafe to practice your skills and receive up to 4 practice sessions with our tutors! All included in the price! As they say, practice makes perfect!
    • Practical and theory based: As with many things, practical skills are just a part of how you become a great barista. With our course, you'll also learn important theory and a short history of coffee that will put you in the best position possible for the future.
    • The best tutors: Our tutors have huge amounts of experience and come from a range of background in the coffee industry. We have people with experience in coffee roasting, coffee machine maintenance, cafe management and two baristas with over 15 years' experience between them.
    • Not just making coffee, running cafes: By teaching our students how to provide a quality product and the importance of doing so, we hope to give you the knowledge to run successful cafes with loyal customers - it's about more than just how to make coffee. Around 40% of our students take the course with the aim of opening their own cafe in the future.
We want you to leave the course with the same passion for the craft that we have, and the real-world practice that will impress potential employers far more than just a qualifying piece of paper will.

    • Best practice techniques.
    • Professional presentation of both coffee and your workspace.
After the two-day course, you'll have the opportunity to receive additional tuition. You will be able to go into a job interview knowing you can make the perfect espresso coffee every time. And of course, ensure that your customers will get the same high quality every time too.
